Summer doesn’t technically begin until June 21st, but the summer movie season has certainly begun. “Iron Man 3” just blew away the first weekend of May, crushing the competition with a wildly impressive $175.3 million start. We’ve got a number of upcoming projects vying for a similar blockbuster status, making big moves in their casting departments to conjure interest and hopefully eventually draw a crowd. Marvel’s ‘Iron Man 3′ began its record-breaking rollout in 42 countries worldwide this weekend, taking in an estimated $195.3 million. The action-sci-fi-thriller, which opens in the U.S. on Friday, surpassed the $185.1 million international opening weekend take of ‘Marvel’s The Avengers’ during the same period last year.
