I Don't Know How She Does It

Blu-ray Review: I Don't Know How She Does It

Monday, February 6th, 2012

Title: I Don’t Know How She Does It Reviewed by: JM Willis Directed by: Douglas McGrath Starring: Sarah Jessica Parker, Pierce Brosnan and Greg Kinnear Running time: 89 minutes , Rated PG-13, Available on DVD Kate Reddy, a financial executive juggles her career and responsibilities as a wife and mother of two, as rivals, friends and family comment in awe to an unseen/unheard interviewer.  Kate breaks the fourth wall as she explains “how she does it.” I  stumbled upon the Uma Thurman box office bomb Motherhood a few weeks ago while channel surfing at my parents’ house, and found the storyline in comparison eerily similar. Mom has to juggle being…

Jane's Journey Movie Review

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

Title: Jane’s Journey Director: Lorenz Knauer If one were to ruminate on the equivalent of a Mother Teresa-type figure for the advocacy of natural animal research and wildlife conservation, it would likely be Dr. Jane Goodall, a world-famous icon known for her groundbreaking scientific field work accrued while living amongst chimpanzees in Africa. Directed by Lorenz Knauer, the documentary “Jane’s Journey” offers up a biographical snapshot of both the personal and professional Goodall. Inclusive of some compelling piecemeal details, it’s a film that’s hard to assail with much enthusiasm or gusto, but the truth is that it’s an awkward and generally unfocused mash-up of mixed perspectives and mission statements. It’s hard to believe, but…

I Don't Know How She Does It Movie Review

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

Title: I Don’t Know How She Does It Director: Douglas McGrath (‘Emma,’ ‘Infamous’) Starring: Sarah Jessica Parker, Pierce Brosnan and Greg Kinnear Adapting a popular novel, particularly one that is filled with social commentary and has been described as the “national anthem for working mothers,” into a film has never been an easy task. However, director Douglas McGrath has naturally brought the story of working mother Kate Reddy, the main character of the critically and commercially acclaimed book ‘I Don’t Know How She Does It’ by Allison Pearson, to life in the new film of the same name. While the story mainly focuses on Kate’s inner struggle and conflict to…

Salvation Boulevard

Salvation Boulevard Movie Review

Friday, July 15th, 2011

Title: Salvation Boulevard Director: George Ratliff Starring: Greg Kinnear, Pierce Brosnan, Jennifer Connelly, Ed Harris, Yul Vazquez, Marisa Tomei, Jim Gaffigan, Isabelle Fuhrman, Ciaran Hinds, Howard Hesseman Its title awash in suburban metaphorical significance, Salvation Boulevard sounds like one of those dramas where some already stressed-out parents suffer and cope with the unexpected loss of a child, or maybe reconcile after decades of emotional drift and infidelity. After an hour with plenty of chilly exchanges, someone flips their lid in the kitchen and starts yelling, maybe smashing a glass or turning over a dining set for effect. Well, histrionics do indeed eventually take center stage here, but Salvation Boulevard‘s putative area of focus is instead a…

Remember Me Movie Review

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

Title: Remember Me Directed By: Allen Coulter Starring: Robert Pattinson, Emilie de Ravin, Pierce Brosnan, Chris Cooper, Lena Olin, Ruby Jerins, Tate Ellington We can’t expect every movie to be good, but there’s nothing worse than walking out of a theater downright angry. Overall, Remember Me is rather boring, but manages to squeeze in a few powerful moments making it worthwhile. But when a real life tragedy is used as a last ditch effort to evoke emotion, Remember Me transforms into something you’ll be eager to forget. Edward Cullen, er – Robert Pattinson leads as Tyler, an NYU student who’s undecided – about everything. He adores his young sister, Caroline…
