Michael Cera Next Set to Serve Some Magic, Magic

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

Michael Cera has been cast in the lead male role in the upcoming independent thriller ‘Magic, Magic,’ Variety is reporting. The movie follows a girl, who has yet to be cast, as she vacations with her friends in a remote area of Chile. She tries to inform her friends that she’s beginning to lose her rational thinking, but they don’t notice until it’s too late. ‘Magic, Magic’ is considered a surprising choice for Cera, who is known for starring in such comedic films as ‘Superbad’ and ‘Juno.’ But he reportedly wants to try a different genre, as his last three comedies, 2009′s ‘Year One’ and last year’s ‘Youth in Revolt’…

Perri's Top 10 Movies Of 2010

Sunday, December 26th, 2010

It’s that time of year again; time to look back on the year passed and recognize the best of the best. It seems every year we complain the crop of movies isn’t up to par, but then the time to compile a list of the best of the year arrives and it’s increasingly difficult. This year gave me a particularly tough time thanks to my latest endeavor: film school. Over the summer, I decided to take my passion for film one step further and enroll in Columbia University’s Film MFA program. It didn’t take long for the education to collide with my work. As I learned more about the filmmaking…

Johnny Depp And Inception Are IMDb's 2010 Favorites

Friday, December 24th, 2010

You’ve still got a little while to go until I unveil my top ten movies of the year, but here’s something to hold you over: IMBd’s Top 10 Films and Stars. The results aren’t generated by critical reception or box office numbers, rather by searches for the stars and user ratings for the films. So, now for the winners. It should come as no surprise that top star of 2010 is Johnny Depp. Not only did he star in one of the year’s highest earners, Alice in Wonderland, but he’s just one of the most famous guys out there regardless. Twilight fans managed to snag the second and third spots…

The Expendables Overpowers The Box Office Again

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

Well, there’s no denying it; I was way off this week. Just two of the five new wide release films cracked the top 10 and neither of which are the ones I’d have picked to do so. Still, no new entry stood a chance against The Expendables, which secured the #1 spot for the second week in a row with $16.5 million. Tack that on to its $34.8 million opening and that gives Sly and the gang a total of $64.9 million in its first two weeks. Spot two went to this week’s worst reviewed film, Vampires Suck. The crazy thing is the $12.2 million that earned it its second…

Sly And The Gang Take The Top Spot At The Box Office

Sunday, August 15th, 2010

Apparently this week it’s brawn over brains because not only did The Expendables demolish Julia Roberts’ soul-seeking drama Eat Pray Love, but the best reviewed newcomer, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, as well. In fact, that one didn’t even crack the top three. Sylvester Stallone’s muscled up adventure opened with an impressive $35 million while Eat Pray Love had a decent first showing with $23.7 million. The Other Guys took a 49.4% hit in week two taking in $18 million, earning it the third position. Holding on strong in week five is Inception. It added another $10.5 million to its pot, which now sits at $248.6 million. The sad story…

Thanks to the ingenious filmmaking techniques of Edgar Wright, some may find that Cera is more of a leading man than any of those muscled up stars. Cera isn’t given…
