Benedict Cumberbatch Cast As Villain In Star Trek 2

Friday, January 6th, 2012

Benedict Cumberbatch, along with his co-worker and friend Martin Freeman, are having a stellar year already. In fact, they were having a stellar 2012 in 2011–Freeman was already filming “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” and Cumberbatch is expected to contribute his part to the film as Smaug and the Necromancer, both Cumberbatch and Freeman were finishing up on Series 2 of “Sherlock” (which is AMAZING), Cumberbatch had a secondary role in “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” (which is still in theaters now!) and now, news has come out that Cumberbatch is going to be the main villain in J.J. Abrams’s “Star Trek 2.” According to CinemaBlend and Deadline, Cumberbatch nailed the…

Movies News Cheat Sheet: Santa Brings Trailers And Posters For Christmas, Box Office Gets Scrooged

Sunday, December 25th, 2011

After a morning packed with Christmas presents, consider this Movie News Cheat Sheet a bit of an after dinner drink to the main meal. Okay, not every item on this week’s list will bring you comfort and joy, but the good most certainly outweighs the not so good. Not a fan of 3D? It pains me to report that both The Avengers and Star Trek 2 will go under the post conversion knife. On the bright and unrelated side, the big screen adaptation of Ender’s Game just snagged a slew of new cast members including Harrison Ford and Abigail Breslin. In other casting news, Lovelace picked up four and might…

Movie News Cheat Sheet: Images Galore Courtesy Of John Carter, The Dark Knight Rises And Prometheus

Sunday, November 27th, 2011

As usual, this Movie News Cheat Sheet is packed with text, but this week, much of that text is geared towards describing the slew of brand new stills that dropped over the past seven days. Not only did we get seven new images from John Carter, but a bunch from The Dark Knight Rises and Prometheus, too. In casting news, word just got out that Gary Oldman turned down the part of The Colonel in Akira and, in rather off-beat casting news, the industry is shocked to learn that a casting associate on Super 8 as well as a number of other child actor-heavy productions is a registered sex offender….

Star Trek 2 Has A Release Date and Will Be Released In 3D

Thursday, November 24th, 2011

Well the promise of a sequel has finally come true. It was only just a matter of time. Now, Deadline is reporting that the new “Star Trek” film will have a release date of May 17th 2013. That’s right! In only a year and a half from now, we’ll be sitting in a movie theater watching the sequel to the widely popular re-boot/re-launch of the “Star Trek” franchise. And not only will we be sitting in a movie theater, we’ll be wearing 3D glasses, ready to enjoy the movie. Along with the release date, an announcement of the sequel being released in 3D, which seems like a common practice these…

Movie News Cheat Sheet: Seyfried For Lovelace, Lopez for Carmen Sandiego, Del Toro For Star Trek 2 And More

Sunday, November 6th, 2011

The theme of this week’s Cheat Sheet? Casting. Well, for the most part. We’ve got the best of the best including J.J. Abrams’ hopes to cast Benicio del Toro as his villain in Star Trek 2 as well as a slew of potential recruits for Warner Bros’ Akira. It’s been confirmed that Jennifer Lopez is producing a Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego movie, but now the question is, will she star in it, too? Then there’s Andy Serkis who just earned a solid paycheck for signing on for Rise of the Planet of the Apes 2 as well as subsequent Apes films. Yes, this Cheat Sheet is certainly…

Paramount Wants J.J. Abrams to Film Star Trek 2 in 3D

Saturday, January 15th, 2011

While J.J. Abrams still hasn’t committed to directing the second ‘Star Trek’ movie, Paramount is still asking him to shoot the movie in 3D, Cinemablend.com is reporting. During an interview with Vulture, the director said a script for the upcoming sequel hasn’t even been finished yet, but he would consider using the visual device if the story-line calls for it. “I have nothing against 3D in theory,” Abrams also said. He added that he doesn’t run to see movies just because they’re in 3D. However, when the ‘Star Trek’ script is finished and if it says something along the lines of “Somebody pushes a weapon toward the camera in a menacing way,” Abrams…

Star Trek 2 Script Expected to be Completed Next Month

Friday, November 12th, 2010

While rumors are continuously swirling about the progress of ‘Star Trek 2,’ recent reports state that the script is expected to be finalized in late December, Cinemablend.com is reporting. While writers Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof are constantly picking up projects, Viacom COO Tom Dooley has confirmed that Abrams is on board to produce and the trio is putting the finishing touches on the script. J.J. Abrams, the founder of Bad Robot Productions, who also directed the first ‘Star Trek,’ is currently attached to produce the sequel. However, he’s not attached to helm the sequel yet, despite the fact that Paramount wants him to return to the director’s…
