Movies News Cheat Sheet: Santa Brings Trailers And Posters For Christmas, Box Office Gets Scrooged

Sunday, December 25th, 2011

After a morning packed with Christmas presents, consider this Movie News Cheat Sheet a bit of an after dinner drink to the main meal. Okay, not every item on this week’s list will bring you comfort and joy, but the good most certainly outweighs the not so good. Not a fan of 3D? It pains me to report that both The Avengers and Star Trek 2 will go under the post conversion knife. On the bright and unrelated side, the big screen adaptation of Ender’s Game just snagged a slew of new cast members including Harrison Ford and Abigail Breslin. In other casting news, Lovelace picked up four and might…

Star Trek 2 Will Shoot in 2D and Possibly IMAX

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

J.J. Abrams announced that he’ll be shooting the ‘Star Trek’ sequel in 2D and possibly IMAX, and will be converting the follow-up to his hit 2009 sci-fi film to 3D in post-production, Collider is reporting. The director said he’ll “do a good high-end conversion like the ‘Harry Potter’ movie. Luckily with our release date now we have the months needed to do it right, because if you rush it, it never looks good.” Abrams added he’s thinking about shooting in IMAX because “I would love to do it. (It) is my favorite format; I’m a huge fan.” The sequel, which is currently untitled and is expected to begin shooting in…

Sunday, November 6th, 2011

The theme of this week’s Cheat Sheet? Casting. Well, for the most part. We’ve got the best of the best including J.J. Abrams’ hopes to cast Benicio del Toro as his villain in Star Trek 2 as well as a slew of potential recruits for Warner Bros’ Akira. It’s been confirmed that Jennifer Lopez is producing a Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego movie, but now the question is, will she star in it, too? Then there’s Andy Serkis who just earned a solid paycheck for signing on for Rise of the Planet of the Apes 2 as well as subsequent Apes films. Yes, this Cheat Sheet is certainly…

Zachary Quinto, who rose to fame playing Spock in the hit 2009 ‘Star Trek’ film, has revealed that he’s gay, the New York Daily News is reporting. The actor publicly opened up about his sexual orientation for the first time, saying his most recent role portraying a gay man in the off-Broadway play ‘Angels in America’ encouraged him to get in touch with himself. Quinto, who can next be seen in the financial thriller ‘Margin Call,’ said the play was a challenging and rewarding experience. “As a gay man, it made me feel like there’s still so much work to be done, and there’s still so many things that need…

The Top 10 Robot Movies

Saturday, October 15th, 2011

Robots are back at the box office! Since “Real Steel” is making the box office rounds, let’s take a small retrospective into the subgenre of sci-fi that always popular with audiences, robot movies. These movies aren’t in any particular order; the only requirement is that they have a robot in them. “I, Robot”: The 2004 Will Smith film probably upset some Isaac Asimov fans, but the film was a fun romp, if you will, into the world of the future where robots are now the norm for humanity, but they are also the bane of the humans who fear the imminent uprising of sentient robots. The main robot character, Sonny…

Rachel Nichols in A Bird of the Air

Exclusive: Rachel Nichols Talks A Bird of the Air, Tyler Perry

Saturday, September 24th, 2011

Rachel Nichols is an actress, a former model, a sports fan, a foodie, a frequent traveler and an avid Twitterer. She is not, however, a reporter for ESPN given to undue amounts of hand gesticulations while talking. Well… that’s Rachel Nichols, too, actually. But a different one. The real Rachel Nichols — genuinely easygoing, and possessing of a developed personality of someone much uglier — is more apt to have names for her hands. Her latest project is the independent-minded “A Bird of the Air,” in which she plays a free-spirited librarian, Fiona, who upends the life of a solitary loner, Lyman (Jackson Hurst), when she takes it upon herself to help him track…
