With Oscar buzz already swirling around Mark Wahlberg for his upcoming starring role in ‘The Fighter,’ the actor is pleasing fans again by confirming he’s signed onto the new neo-noir film ‘Broken City,’ Slashfilm.com is reporting. The script, which was written by Brian Tucker, follows former cop Taggart, who’s still shamed for shooting a teenager years ago. Taggart now works as a private detective, and the New York mayor is interested in his services to see if his wife is cheating on him.

During an interview with MTV, Walhberg said he wants to do the movie, which is being directed by Allen Hughes. “It’s one of the best unproduced screenplays…It’s an amazing piece of material that should attract amazing talents,” he added.

The production date for ‘Broken City’ is still unclear, however, as Hughes and his brother Albert were reportedly hired to direct the live-action ‘Akira’ for Warner Bros. But there are rumors that Albert may direct the film himself.
