This film seems quite overdue to Sinatra fans (including myself), but 1) a Frank Sinatra biopic is finally getting made and 2) it’s being filmed by Martin Scorsese. News has just been released today that Scott Rudin will produce the film, according to Deadline.

Rudin joins Peter Guber and Schulman from Mandalay Entertainment who were brought into the project two years ago, the time when the rights were secured from Frank Sinatra Estates. Scorsese’s production company Sikelia Productions is also producing the film.

Rudin was nominated twice at the Oscars this year for the films “True Grit” and “The Social Network”. Other films being produced are the U.S. version of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” and Martin Luther King assassination drama “Memphis.”

Now for the fun part–couch casting! Firstly, I’m sure my casting choice for Sinatra will not be read by anyone important, and I’m quite sure most will disagree with me, as I have an unusual choice for the role. But the person I’d pick to play Sinatra is….get ready…Christian Finnegan.

“WHAT?” You’re probably saying? Your criticism is valid, but think about it, or, rather, look at the guy. Now that Finnegan’s lost quite a bit of weight, he vaguely resembles Ol’ Blue Eyes. The key word being “vaguely”. But, with some brunette/black hair dye, it could work. And he’s already got blue eyes, so genetics has covered one hurdle for us.

Whomever they choose to play Sinatra, I’m sure he’ll do well. But we’ll have to wait and see, since “Sinatra” is scheduled to be out in 2013.
