CinemaBlend is reporting via TheOneRing that extended editions of “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy will be playing in AMC theaters over a three-week span this June. This is supposed to be good news for fans, but let’s recall how long the “Lord of the Rings” films already are:

“The Fellowship of the Ring”: 178 minutes (nearly three hours)
“The Two Towers”: 179 minutes (nearly three hours)
“Return of the King”: 201 minutes (three hours and 21 minutes)

Now here’s how long the extended editions are:

“The Fellowship of the Ring”: 208 minutes (3 hours and 28 minutes)
“The Two Towers”: 223 minutes (nearly four hours)
“Return of the King”: 251 minutes (FOUR HOURS AND ELEVEN MINUTES!!!)

Talk about long! I was having trouble just sitting through the films as they were! “Return of the King” had about four different endings to it! Just imagine if there are more endings to that one!
The ideal way to watch these films really is to just watch them at home, so you can pause the film, have bathroom breaks, get more refreshments, and then return to the world of elves and hobbits. But, if you are a die-hard fan and must have the movie theater experience, you can learn more about the AMC special screenings at their website. More power to you, individual.
