After having the opportunity to speak with the ones responsible for creating The Vampire Diaries and sending the show’s characters on one heck of a tumultuous adventure, writer-producers Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson, we got to chat with two of the actors thrown right into the middle of it all, Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev.

SPOILER ALERT: Major season one and two spoilers in this interview.

Season two came to a close with Stefan’s (Paul Wesley) exit. As dictated by his deal with Klaus (Joseph Morgan), he must leave Elena (Dobrev) behind to accompany Klaus on whatever it is he’s got planned, likely something devastating as he’s now an all-powerful vampire, werewolf hybrid. That leaves Elena with Damon (Somerhalder), forcing Damon to put his usual nonsense on hold, and step it up for Elena’s sake, or so we hope.

“Ultimately, he’s pretty pissed off,” Somerhalder explained. After two seasons of trying to get Damon in line, “Stefan’s running around with Klaus, a dude that Damon absolutely hates.” Now, Damon’s stuck in Mystic Falls with a girl that he loves, but can’t have. As unhappy as he is with the situation, Somerhalder said, “I think he’s going to rise to the occasion.” Then again, “If people are expecting Damon to be this wearing his heart on his sleeve kind of hero character, ain’t happening.” What is on the way for Damon? Check where Somerhalder sees him going in this video roundtable interview.

Next up, Dobrev sat down to talk about her experience playing two characters on the same show, Elena and Katherine, and what it takes for her to jump from one role to the other. Dobrev also gets a double dose when it comes to the Salvatore brothers. When asked which of the two brothers she’d pick herself, Stefan or Damon, Dobrev found a loophole and went for “I’m pretty sure there’s another brother somewhere. It’s the hybrid of the two of them.” But, of course, on the show, courtesy of the current circumstances, Elena’s being pulled toward Damon. However, Dobrev explained, “You’ll see in the first episode, she may not necessarily be skewing towards Damon.” Hear all about that and more in the video interview below.
