A few days ago, we reported on“The Perfect House,” a film by Randy Kent and Kris Hulbert. This film will be the first to be distributed by FlickLaunch, a new distributing platform by Facebook. Hulbert and Kent think that the platform will not only help them, but other indie directors who want to put their film out to the public.

Kent and Hulbert said the movie originally started with a movie short by Hulbert. “We were thinking about how to stretch this into a feature,” said Kent, “so we thought, ‘how about we do an anthology?'” According to Hulbert, over the course of six months, two more shorts were written to make “The Perfect House” an anthology telling the story of a newlywed couple who love a house that they soon realize might be a terrible place.

After finding out about Facebook’s new platform, Hulbert and Kent literally went the extra mile to get in on the program. They, along with two of their actor/producers, went to California to Facebook’s headquarters. “We drove to Palo Alto with a screener and a press release and walked right into the office,” said Hulbert. “We were turned away, but we gave our information to the secretary and a few weeks later, we found a press release for FlickLaunch…I found the contact number and talked with Craig Tanner, and saw that he was excited to help independent films and we were going to premiere the film on FlickLaunch before anywhere else, and that was really important to us…They’ve been great partners ever since.”

Both Kent and Hulbert are impressed with the platform. “It had something that Amazon and iTunes did not possess,” said Hulbert. “It comes with a ‘share’ button that gives you a built-in way to promote a film. And, fans can come directly to our Facebook page and watch [the film] immediately…With the word of mouth the platform brings, there is unlimited potential.” He also said he thinks the platform will usher in a new era of responsible, high quality filmmaking.

“[FlickLaunch] loads fast, is very well done,” said Kent. “[It’s] very well designed, and you can watch [films] from anywhere…which is invaluable.”

For Kent and Hulbert, “The Perfect House” is just the beginning. “We’ve got all sorts videos and confessions, and we’re going to put a documentary together from the videos of being on the road,” said Hulbert. “We want to create a foundation that will last a long time.”

“The Perfect House” premieres on FlickLaunch October 1.
