FilmOn Lab is officially launching a legal multi-screen service in February 2012, which will be available to all its yearly US-based subscribers. The company, which is a division of Internet-based HD virtual cable TV service FilmOn.com, will transmit the FilmOn AIR to all its users for free, so that they can watch local network shows on their computers and mobile devices.

The FilmOn Air tuner is compatible with most smart phones, tablets, Mac and Windows computers. It tunes into over-the-air ATSC Digital signals already being transmitted by the networks. The FilmOn AIR, which retails for $95.95, allows users to record and watch programs.

Of the new service, Alki David, the CEO and Founder of FilmOn, said the company has licensed over 120 HD online channels, including College Sports and Live Soccer networks. But “the challenge has been in legally bringing major network programming to our line-up whilst respecting the networks’ traditional business models,” he said. David pointed to the fact that in 2010, “FilmOn ended up in an ongoing legal battle with all four of the major networks CBS, NBC, ABC and FOX, over FilmOn’s right to carry their signals over the Internet. The case is ongoing and FilmOn expects to settle the dispute this year.”
