“Beauty and the Beast (in 3D)” is the next in the new series of 3D remastered versions of classic Disney films being trotted back out to the nation’s movie theaters. Like with “The Lion King,” an outpouring of emotional sentiment from nostalgic movie-goers, as well as children who vaguely grew up with the classic Disney films of the ’80s and ’90s, is what has propelled this film toward the top of the box office.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a 91% fresh rating from critics and an 86% fresh rating from audiences. According to the site, the critics felt that the film was “[e]nchanting, sweepingly romantic, and featuring plenty of wonderful musical numbers,” and was “one of Disney’s most elegant animated offerings.” Personally, I had a bit of an issue with the animation consistency, but it is a charming fairy tale sprinkled with Disney charm, and the 3D was best utilized with the beginning and ending stained glass scenes as well as with the stellar ballroom scene that cinched the film’s Oscar nomination.

What did you think about the 3D version of “Beauty and the Beast”? Did the film still have the same magic you remembered as a child? Give your opinions in the comments section below.
