Considering those are far from colossal starting points, both Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted and Prometheus have a solid shot at staying in the mix and, for Madagascar, possibly holding on to that #1 spot. After a stellar $60 million opening, Madagascar could be heading towards a sizable 50% slashing, but that’ll still leave it with just over $30 million, probably enough to take down That’s My Boy. As for Prometheus, strong word of mouth and the need for second viewings will help, but it’ll still likely drop 50%, giving it $25 million for weekend two.
Snow White and the Huntsman looks to continue on its landslide decline, possibly suffering another slash in half for an $11.5 million third weekend out. Men in Black 3 will likely suffer a similar fate, bringing its $11.2 million third weekend down to about $5.5 million for weekend four. Even after having been in the rotation for six weeks, The Avengers might be able to hold on strong enough to steal the sixth position from MIB 3 with a $6 million haul.
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is certainly starting to make its exit, but it shouldn’t lose more than 40% from weekend six to seven, letting it take another $2 million. What to Expect When You’re Expecting will also see a minimal decline, likely losing the same for a $1.5 million fifth weekend out. However, after a 77.9% profit boost from an additional 80 theaters, Moonrise Kingdom might not lose much at all, perhaps leaving it with $1.55 million, just enough to beat What to Expect When You’re Expecting for the ninth spot.
