Flyleaf is reaching higher while recognizing the past with “New Horizons,” the band’s latest album. The album is a culmination of sorts for the band; this is the final album with frontwoman Lacy Sturm, who left the band this year. Some fans might feel it’s the end of an era with new lead singer Kristen May joining the group, but the album should probably be taken as both a “Thank you” to their loyal fans and a sign of the continuation of awesome music from the band.

The band’s sound has been described as “cathartic,” and that sound continues in full force on “New Horizons.” Early favorites for fans are bound to be the title song, “New Horizons,” as well as “Fire Fire,” “Call You Out” and the more metal-sounding “Green Heart.” Of course, while the rich melodies and intense lyrical meaning can be found on all of the songs, all of these elements really come together on the ballad “Broken Wings.” The lyrics, “Thank you for being such a friend to me/Oh, I pray a friend for life,” really seem to call back to the fans, thanking them for their continued support.

Overall, “New Horizons” will be a must-buy for Flyleaf fans. And personally, I’d stay tuned to the band to see where they go from here.
