Many studios understandably wait to distribute many of their most prestigious films closer to the end-of-the-year holidays, in hopes of garnering attention for the major awards season after the beginning of the new year. But the summer season is also a noteworthy time for cinema fans, and summer 2017 is promising to be no different. The upcoming summer months promise to be the latest season set to release gripping, entertaining and memorable movies that are sure to entertain both kids and adults.

The summer 2017 film season is set to begin early, as director Steven Shainberg‘s horror film, ‘Rupture,’ is set to be distributed into theaters and on VOD and Digital HD on April 28 by AMBI Media Group. In addition to serving as the helmer, Shainberg also produced the sci-fi-thriller, as well as co-wrote the script with Brian Nelson. The drama stars Noomi Rapace, Peter Stormare, Kerry Bishe and Michael Chiklis.

AMBI Media Group has released the following synopsis for ‘Rupture’:

Renee Morgan (Rapace), is a single mom who is deathly terrified of spiders. While in route to meet up with a friend, she is violently abducted by a group of strangers. After enduring intense yet strange questioning and examinations, some about her fear of spiders, Renee soon discovers that she is now the subject of an underground experiment. Her captors explain to her that she has a genetic abnormality that can potentially allow her to rupture and reveal her alien nature. Renee must find a way to escape before it is too late.

The season’s next exciting release is set to be the action-adventure movie, ‘Enter the Warriors Gate,’ which was directed by Matthias Hoene. The fantasy film is now available on DirecTV, and will also be distributed in theaters, and On Demand, iTunes and Amazon, on May 5 by EuropaCorp. The drama was written by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen, and stars Mark Chao, Ni Ni, former WWE superstar Dave Bautista and Uriah Shelton.

EuropaCorp has released the following synopsis for ‘Enter the Warriors Gate’:

After a mysterious chest opens a gateway through time, teen gamer Jack (Shelton) is transported to an ancient empire terrorized by a cruel barbarian king (Bautista). Jack will need all of his gaming skills as he battles to defeat the barbarian, protect a beautiful princess and somehow find his way back home.

Another film that’s set to garner thrills is the action movie, ‘Once Upon a Time in Venice.’ The comedy marks the feature film directorial debut of Mark Cullen, who also produced the movie and wrote the script with Robb Cullen. The film stars Bruce Willis, John Goodman, Jason Momoa, Famke Janssen, Thomas Middleditch, Adam Goldberg and Kal Penn.

‘Once Upon a Time in Venice’ is set to be distributed in theaters on June 16 by RLJ Entertainment, which has released the following synopsis for the action-comedy:

Venice Beach P.I. Steve Ford (Willis) is a detective who’s good with the ladies, bad with the punches and wild about his dog, Buddy. But when his beloved pet is stolen by local thugs, Steve makes a questionable alliance with their devious leader, Spyder (Momoa). Teaming up with his best friend (Goodman), Steve pulls out the big guns in search of Spyder’s stolen cocaine and cash in order to set things straight and get Buddy back where he belongs.

Another filmmaker who’s making their feature film directorial debut is Alethea Jones, who helmed the comedy, ‘Fun Mom Dinner.’ The movie, which was written by Julie Rudd, is set to be released in select theaters and On Demand and Digital HD on August 4 by Momentum Pictures. The film stars Katie Aselton, Toni Collette, Bridget Everett, Molly Shannon, Adam Scott, Rob Huebel and Adam Levine.

Momentum Pictures has released the following synopsis for ‘Fun Mom Dinner’:

Four moms whose only common ground is their kids’ preschool class, decide to get together for a harmless “fun mom dinner.” The night begins as a disaster, but the combination of alcohol, karaoke and a cute bartender leads to an unforgettable night, where these seemingly different women realize they have more in common than motherhood and men.

The summer is set to end on a pulsating note with the action film, ‘Bushwick,’ which was directed by Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott. The movie, which is set to be distributed into theaters on August 25 by RLJ Entertainment, was written by Nick Damici and Graham Reznick. The drama stars Dave Bautista, Brittany Snow, Angelic Zambrana and Jeremie Harris.

RLJ Entertainment has released the following synopsis for ‘Bushwick’:

When Lucy (Snow) steps off the subway, she walks into an utter bloodbath on the streets of Brooklyn’s Bushwick neighborhood. Texas is attempting to secede from the Union, and militia forces have descended upon New York City to claim it as an East Coast base of operations and negotiation tool. Faced with a flurry of whizzing bullets and total destruction around every corner, Lucy takes shelter in the basement of Stupe (Bautista), a burly war veteran who reluctantly helps her traverse the treacherous five-block stretch of Bushwhack to reach her destination—assuming it’s still there.
