The “Twilight” films may set teenage hearts aflutter, but the HBO series “True Blood” is the franchise by which a lot more diehard vampire fans swear. For Stephen Moyer, it’s a dream gig — heck, it even landed him on the cover of “Rolling Stone.” In the new espionage thriller “The Double,” Moyer swaps out his accent to play an imprisoned Russian spy/assassin, Brutus, who comes face to face with the man (Richard Gere) who put him in prison. ShockYa recently had a chance to participate in a press day for the film, and chat with Moyer about his small screen hit and new film, his busy schedule, the challenges of shooting out  [ Read More ]

Exclusive: Elena Anaya Talks The Skin I Live In

Posted by bsimon On November - 2 - 2011 0 Comment

Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar’s stylish output is such that he’s almost a genre to himself. His latest movie, “The Skin I Live In,” is not only his first film with star Antonio Banderas in many years, but it also marks a certain return to provocative form, so deliciously warped are its plot pivots. At the core of it, though, is a stirring performance from Elena Anaya, who plays Vera, the mysterious captive of Banderas’ rich surgeon, Dr. Robert Ledgard. Revelations about the depth and nature of their relationship are a big part of what drive the movie, but it suffices to say that Vera’s situation is rife with layered trauma, making for a  [ Read More ]

Interview: Topher Grace Talks The Double

Posted by bsimon On October - 28 - 2011 0 Comment

Topher Grace came of age on the small screen, in the hit sitcom “That ’70s Show.” Acting was never necessarily part of the grand plan when he was younger, however, so he’s leveraged the success of that experience into a more diverse portfolio on the big screen, dabbling in everything from action movies (“Predators”) and big-budget comic book adventures (“Spider-Man 3″) to political dramas (“Too Big To Fail”) and more offbeat dramedies (“In Good Company”). His new film is “The Double,” an espionage thriller in which he stars with Richard Gere, as an old-and-new pair of government operatives trying to track down a long-dormant but newly resurfaced Russian assassin. Meet The Rebels of Valora

Posted by lonnie On October - 27 - 2011 0 Comment

Female singers often gravitate to the pop genre to achieve fame when really they should be heading to the rock world. The tougher exterior of alternative rock music enhances their sex appeal much more than if they were singing bubble gum tracks. Having a frontwoman ups the edge of a rock group and automatically deems the band attention worthy if she has the vocal chops to back up her looks. The point is proven with the outfit, Valora. The California group is fronted by Syd Duran and also consists of Ryan Villa, Taelor Duran, Jared Baez, Kasim Somers and Kenneth Benson. The sextet just released the video for the track,  [ Read More ]

Klitschko Movie Review

Posted by bsimon On October - 25 - 2011 0 Comment

Title: Klitschko Director: Sebastian Dehnhardt Proving its subjects uncommon thinkers as well as uncommon fighters, the new documentary “Klitschko” is a surprisingly humanizing and informative look at the Ukrainian-born world champion boxing brothers of the same surname. Striking a nice balance between the personal and professional and for the most part avoiding the pitfalls of overly worshipful hagiography, the movie casts a spotlight on a deep, sincere and certainly much more well adjusted fraternal love than on display in last year’s Oscar-winning “The Fighter.” Shot over the course of two years by director Sebastian Dehnhardt, “Klitschko” has an immediate currency, given the brothers’ collective lock on the five heavyweight championship boxing belts  [ Read More ]
