Posted by Karen Benardello On July - 7 - 2011 0 Comment

Continuing with Shockya’s new mini-series The Best and Worst Films of 2011…So Far, this installment ironically includes historical dramas and car action movies on both the greatest and poorest lists. Some of these films successfully integrated historical facts with a captivating storyline and big-budget stunts with a natural bond between the cast, respectfully; unfortunately, the other movies disappointingly failed to incorporate accurate backstories or exciting chase scenes. The Best and Worst Films of 2011…So Far also features some of the most anticipated movies of the second half of the year. The summer seems to want to step away from the historical dramas and action films to instead focus on the  [ Read More ]

Well, this should certainly be a livelier week. Unlike last weekend where we had just one wide release, and a weak one at that, the second weekend in January welcomes two new big releases to the competition, The Dilemma and The Green Hornet. Between the two, there’s really no contest; The Dilemma doesn’t stand a chance against The Green Hornet. Not only is The Dilemma only hitting 2,941 theaters as compared to The Green Hornet’s 3,584, but the latter will also benefit from the high 3D ticket prices and better reviews, too. Back in 2009, My Bloody Valentine 3D kicked off its run in January with a nice $21.2 million.  [ Read More ]

Box Office Forecast: True Grit Could Finally Come Out On Top

Posted by Perri Nemiroff On January - 6 - 2011 1 Comment

It doesn’t look as though the year will start off with a bang considering Season of the Witch is the sole new wide release. If that one starts off anything like Cage’s last supernatural film, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, we’re looking at a mere $17 million opening. However, that film had the benefit of a few other notable names like Jay Baruchel and Alfred Molina, whereas with Season of the Witch, Cage is the main draw. On top of that, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice opened with a theater count of 3,504 while Season of the Witch is getting just 2,816. On the bright side, Season of the Witch is opening unopposed, so  [ Read More ]
