Daily Shock: Jaden Smith Paid Millions to Star in Karate Kid

Sunday, May 1st, 2011

Jaden Smith reportedly signed a multi-million dollar contract for his first leading role in last summer’s action film ‘The Karate Kid, TMZ is reporting. After obtaining Smith’s contract from the blockbuster remake, which he signed in June 2009 when he was 10 years old, TMZ revealed that he received his initial fee in two installments. The first payment was for $900,000, and the second installment was for $100,000. But since ‘The Karate Kid,’ which was produced by Smith’s parents Will and Jada, earned over $150 million at the domestic box office, he pulled in another $2 million as a bonus. But TMZ is also speculating that the $3 million payment…

Christopher Nolan Sucks Moviegoers Into His Dreamworld And Inception Tops The Box Office

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

The weekend estimates are in and it looks like Christopher Nolan had no trouble conducting a little inception of his own, convincing the masses to check out his latest masterpiece. Inception pulled in $60.4 million easily securing the top spot, but that haul doesn’t even come close to Nolan’s last release, The Dark Knight, which earned an incredible $1558.4 million in its first weekend alone. However, Inception does bring Leonardo DiCaprio his biggest opening ever, blowing away Shutter Island’s $41.1 million first weekend total. Despicable Me took a 42% hit dropping Gru and his minions to second place with $32.7 million, which brings its total to $118.4 million. Third place…

Forget The Moon, Despicable Me Nabbed $60.1 Million At The Box Office

Monday, July 12th, 2010

There’s no need to get a loan from the Bank of Evil; Gru and his minions hit it big at the box office this weekend. Despicable Me blew Universal Picture’s expectations away grossing far more than the $30 million the studio was hoping for. Despicable Me closed out the weekend with a whopping $60.1 million. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse came in second with $33.4 million, which brings its grand total to $237 million. The third spot went to newcomer Predators, which collected $25.3 million at 2,669 theaters. Predators only had a $40 million production budget, so tack on the $18 million it made at the international box office and it’s…

Both Eclipse And Airbender Hit It Big At The Box Office This Holiday Weekend

Monday, July 5th, 2010

The July 4th weekend has come to a close, but the celebrations will continue for both Summit Entertainment and Paramount. As expected, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse nabbed the top spot with $82.5 million. Stealing the film’s thunder quite a bit is that it earned a record-breaking $68.5 million on Wednesday alone, which means it took quite a hit from day one to day two, a 64.7% drop to be exact. Over the four-day weekend, the film made that $82.5 million, tack on the estimated $13.5 million it made today and that brings the grand total to $175.3 million. But that was expected. The surprise winner of the weekend is M….

Buzz And Woody Hold Strong Against Tom Cruise And Adam Sandler At The Box Office

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz are a pretty high profile matchup as is the comedy ensemble of Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Rob Schneider, Chris Rock and David Spade, but neither were able to take down a gang of animated toys. Toy Story 3 took in another $59 million, but it did take a 47% hit, which is the highest second week drop for a Pixar summer release. However, that’s really not that bad considering the film is coming off of a massive $110 million opening. So far, Toy Story 3 has a total gross of $226.6 million as compared to Pixar’s highest grossing film ever, Find Nemo, which only had…

The A-Team Is No Match For The Karate Kid At The Box Office

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

Ouch. The Karate Kid gave The A-Team quite a beating at the box office. What was expected to be a close race turned out to be quite the blowout with Jaden Smith snatching up $56 million as compared to Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Rampage Jackson and Sharlto Copley’s disappointing $26 million. This is a massive miss for Fox especially considering Sony’s product cost about $70 million less to put together. Fox better keep its fingers crossed the folks overseas are more receptive to massive amounts of action and explosions to ensure they get back their $110 million. The Karate Kid’s stellar performance also means the time has come for Shrek…

Ralph Macchio Stars In Wax On, F*ck Off

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

What better way to ring in the new Karate Kid than by spending some time with the original, Ralph Macchio? Daniel LaRusso’s crane kick was pretty badass, but overall, Daniel-san was as amiable as they come, just like Macchio himself. Just in time for the remake to hit theaters, Macchio teamed up with the folks over at Funny or Die to make a movie of his own. Well, it’s just a joke trailer, but if a feature length version ever hits theaters, I’m there. In Wax On, F*ck Off, Macchio is joined by his friends, family, manager, Molly Ringwald and Kevin Connolly to examine a nice guy that finished last….
