It’s finally started! If you’re like me and you’ve been waiting impatiently for the start of “Star Trek 2,” you’re in luck, because the principal photography has started! According to Paramount’s press release posted on latino-review.com, the principal photography began last Thursday, true to J.J. Abrams’ word. The film will be released May 17, 2013 in 3D and will see the return of the original cast members to the reboot–Chris Pine, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, and Anton Yelchin. Nazneen Contractor And Joseph Gatt Join Star Trek Sequel

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

I’m loving the casting news coming out about the “Star Trek” sequel. First Noel Clarke, next Benedict Cumberbatch (who is, according to benedictcumberbatch.co.uk, playing a villain that is probably not going to be a villain previously associated with the franchise–could the rumors be right in that he’s playing Q after all?), and now Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Nazneen Contractor from “24″ has been added to the casting roster. According to Entertainment Weekly, Contractor will play the wife of Clarke’s character. However, we still don’t know who Clarke is playing aside from someone who is being described as “a family man with a wife and young daughter.” Another actor joining…

Fright Night

DVD Review: Fright Night, Catch .44, Carjacker and Maniac Cop

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

A pumped-up remake of the same-named 1984 vampire horror-comedy, “Fright Night” represents a well oiled machine of goosed senses that unfortunately has no clearly defined motivating purposes, even within genre confines of its own story. Fun and engaging performances carry the movie a great distance, but it eventually bogs down courtesy of loosely defined stakes (no pun intended) and poorly incentivized action. The story centers on Las Vegas high school senior Charley Brewster (Anton Yelchin), who lives with his single mom real estate agent, Jane (Toni Collette), and has successfully pivoted away from his geeky past enough to bag a popular girlfriend, Amy (Imogen Poots). Things get turned upside down…

The Pretty Reckless Light Me Up

Lonnie's Top 10 Albums of 2011

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

With 2011 coming to an end, you should prepare to be flooded with countdowns from the year’s top movies to the top music videos. Yes, some of these lists are entirely trivial, but they are also short and sweet and sum up a year in less than five minutes. A trivial list in this context would be the top ten reality stars, which is a completely unnecessary countdown since a Kardashian is at every number. You, Shockya readers, deserve an unpredictable list that can benefit you, not make you wish you could be famous for doing absolutely nothing. So, open up your iTunes and get ready to purchase the Top…

Star Trek 2 Has A Release Date and Will Be Released In 3D

Thursday, November 24th, 2011

Well the promise of a sequel has finally come true. It was only just a matter of time. Now, Deadline is reporting that the new “Star Trek” film will have a release date of May 17th 2013. That’s right! In only a year and a half from now, we’ll be sitting in a movie theater watching the sequel to the widely popular re-boot/re-launch of the “Star Trek” franchise. And not only will we be sitting in a movie theater, we’ll be wearing 3D glasses, ready to enjoy the movie. Along with the release date, an announcement of the sequel being released in 3D, which seems like a common practice these…

Like Crazy Movie

Like Crazy Movie Review

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

Title: Like Crazy Director: Drake Doremus Starring: Anton Yelchin, Felicity Jones, Jennifer Lawrence, Charlie Bewley, Alex Kingston, Chris Messina, Ben York Jones, Oliver Muirhead The Grand Jury Prize winner at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, the achingly well constructed “Like Crazy” is an evocative coming-of-age romance that pointedly sidesteps the Hollywood contrivances of so many relationship movies, and instead delivers a portrait of sincere young love that is perhaps not meant to last forever. Perceptive, and told with style but not unnecessary flash by director Drake Doremus, the film is well acted all around, but is anchored by a breakout performance from Felicity Jones. The story opens in Los Angeles, where design student Jacob (Anton…

DVD Review: The Beaver, Super Hybrid, The Death of Andy Kaufman, Blitz and Prom

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

For all her success as an actress, Jodie Foster has had one of the more strangely cursed modern-day careers as a director. She’s made some good movies (“Little Man Tate” remains underrated), but she’s also had countless projects fall apart, including a wonderfully scripted period piece circus tale which Russell Crowe was attached to for quite some time, before a shoulder injury finally scuttled production for good at the last moment. “The Beaver” represents Foster’s latest Waterloo, through no particular fault of her own. A unique and well regarded debut script from writer Kyle Killen made the rounds in Hollywood, and for a while had Steve Carell attached to star. When…
