Title: J. Edgar Director: Clint Eastwood Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Armie Hammer (‘The Social Network’), Naomi Watts and Judi Dench Preserving your place in history and protecting your reputation while maintaining your privacy is important to many people, particularly those in the government and the public spotlight. But the rise of fame and struggle to hold onto power often leads people to question the intentions of those around them. Such is the case with the FBI’s first director, J. Edgar Hoover, as seen in the new biographical drama ‘J. Edgar,’ directed by Clint Eastwood. While only a select few understand the struggles of being the director of the FBI, many viewers…

J. Edgar Trailer Released

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

The trailer for one of the potential Oscar-nominated movies of 2011, “J. Edgar,” has been released. I say it’s a potential Oscar-nominated film not only because it’s the (supposedly) unflinching, realistic biopic about a former U.S. president, but it is also directed by Oscar veterans Clint Eastwood and Leonardo DiCaprio. The trailer for the film is below the post, and I have to say, that it looks really good. The trailer really brings across the totalitarian nature Hoover had over the country. And the aging makeup on DiCaprio isn’t so bad either. It would seem like the film is positioning itself to tell a “Citizen Kane”-style story. We shall see…

Leonardo DiCaprio and Clint Eastwood in J Edgar

First look at Leonardo DiCaprio and Clint Eastwood in J. Edgar

Saturday, August 13th, 2011

There hasn’t been much news about the biopic “J. Edgar” in a long time, but finally, Entertainment Weekly has the first look at the film. In the pictures posted by EW, DiCaprio is in costume as J. Edgar Hoover and taking direction from Clint Eastwood. EW also has some insight behind the movie from the film’s screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (“Milk”) and Eastwood. “I started to become curious about the ‘why’ [about why Hoover became a tyrant],” said Black. “He did wonderful things for his country, but why did he end up doing so many things that were heinous or harmful? I think it was all in the name of…

Hereafter pulled from theaters in Japan

Monday, March 14th, 2011

According to Entertainment Weekly and the Associated Press, the film “Hereafter” has been pulled from theaters in Japan this week. The reasoning behind it is due to one very excruciating sequence. In the film, a horrific re-enactment of the 2004 tsunami that hit Indonesia takes place. The scene was considered too traumatic in light of the recent earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan Friday. Satoru Otani, an official for Warner Entertainment Japan Inc., stated the tsunami portion of the film were “not appropriate” for audiences in light of the destruction caused by the natural disaster. The film “Hereafter”, directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Matt Damon, CĂ©cile De France, and…

Beyonce and Clint Eastwood to remake A Star is Born

Friday, January 21st, 2011

Remember the 1954 Judy Garland classic ‘A Star is Born’? Well, it would appear that the film is going to receive a 21st century update. According to Deadline, Oscar-winner and veteran director Clint Eastwood will direct pop star Beyonce in a remake of ‘A Star is Born’. Naturally, news of this pairing has taken the internet by storm, mostly from shock. The mind boggles at the news, but what’s even more boggling is finding out what actor will play alongside Beyonce. E! has been throwing out potential names such as Robert Pattinson, Jay Z (Beyonce’s husband in real life), and Usher. Personally, I think a Denzel Washington or even someone…

Clint Eastwood Denies Casting Joaquin Phoenix in Hoover Biopic

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

After rumors began swirling that Joaquin Phoenix was going to resurrect his acting career by appearing in the new J. Edgar Hoover biography, director Clint Eastwood is denying the claims. Cinemablend.com is reporting that while Leonardo DiCaprio has been signed to star as the founder of the FBI, the movie’s screenwriter, Dustin Lance Black, previously suggested that Phoenix was in the running to play Hoover’s protege and suspected lover, Clyde Tolson. When asked about the casting rumors, Eastwood said, “No, I don’t know where that came from.” But he subtly confirmed that the movie will discuss Hoover’s rumored homosexuality, saying “He was a very complex person. The homosexual aspect is just…
