Top Five Things Perri Is Thankful For In 2011

Thursday, November 24th, 2011

Every year my family sits around the Thanksgiving table and tells each other what we’re thankful for, which winds up being the same thing four times over – family. Sure, that’s very much true and will remain so my entire life, but as the movie industry is such an essential part of my life, there’s no denying that the business’ highlights genuinely have an impact on my year. Following in the footsteps of my colleagues Karen, Joe, Melissa and Monique, I bring you five film industry achievements I’m most thankful for in 2011. 1. Lionsgate Seems to be Doing The Hunger Games Right: I wouldn’t call the casting process a…

Switching gears yet again, apparently a man was inspired to toss a hot dog at Tiger Woods while in the midst of a match by the movie Drive and, far more unfortunately, a group of extras took a tough tumble on the set of Resident Evil: Retribution. Then, of course, we’ve got some…

Interview: Joe Cornish Breaks Out On The Scene With 'Attack The Block'

Saturday, July 30th, 2011

There are plenty of filmmakers out there who hope that they get some form of small recognition when they make their way onto the scene with their first directed feature length film. However, there’s few who end up getting as much national attention over their first film like Joe Cornish has with “Attack the Block.” The television writer peels himself away from his silver screen habitat and has successfully made his transition to theaters. It’s not an easy task, but in this case Mr. Cornish makes it look oh so easy with his short, sweet and completely kick-ass film. Out of sheer luck I got the chance to talk to…

The Best and Worst Movies of 2011 So Far (Rudie's Take)

Friday, July 8th, 2011

Some people will say 2011 isn’t a great year for movies. I would tend to disagree with that sentiment. It’s true the number of great films (so far) in 2011 are fewer than 2010 but the ones we do have in 2011 are pretty spectacular and worth watching and discussing. There are movies like Gore Verbinski’s “Rango” or Joe Wright’s “Hanna” are among the favorites of general audiences, just looking at the critical response and box office receipts, but there are also smaller movies that seem to have been forgotten like Cary Fukunaga’s adaptation of “Jane Eyre” and Tom McCarthy’s comic gem, “Win Win”. All of these titles are worthy…

Spielberg and Jackson Team Up for Tintin

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

Variety reports that Steven Spielberg will wrap 32 days of filming on Tintin this week in which he will then hand the project to producer Peter Jackson. Jackson, who is in charge of the film’s special effects, will work on the effects for 18 months. Spielberg originally obtained the rights to Tintin in 1983, but has not felt special effects have been up to par to what was needed until he saw Jackson’s work on the Lord of the Rings trilogy and King Kong, which is why the two have paired up for the project. The Tintin comic book series is about a globetrotting teenaged boy reporter. Tintin originated in…
