Dream House

In Your Opinion: Dream House

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

Ugh, it looks like horror films are still on their downward spiral this year. “Dream House,” starring Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz, has failed at the box office, garnering an abysmal 8% rotten, according to Rotten Tomatoes. The audience was slightly kinder, but still hated it, giving it a 43% rotten rating. There’s a lot to not like in the movie, the use of kids, once again, being one of them. Kids in scary movies is now totally past cliche, in my book, and I wish horror films would cut it out unless the kids are actually well-described characters that mean something to the plot, like Carol-Ann in “Poltergeist.” Overall,…

Dream House Movie Review

Friday, September 30th, 2011

Title: Dream House Directed By: Jim Sheridan Starring: Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts, Rachel Weisz, Elias Koteas, Marton Csokas, Taylor Geare, Claire Geare, Rachel Fox Movies like Dream House are simply amazing in the worst ways possible. With the slew of films that go into development to never see the green light, how does a script like this slip through rounds and rounds of coverage and scrutiny? Then, how does an irrational story like this attract such top-notch talent like Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts and Rachel Weisz? Worst of all, who thought it’d be worth it to release Dream House in theaters rather than just attempt to tuck it away on…

The Whistleblower Movie Review 2

Sunday, August 7th, 2011

Title: The Whistleblower Director: Larysa Kondracki Starring: Rachel Weisz, David Strathairn, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Anna Anissimova, Roxana Condurache, Monica Bellucci, Vanessa Redgrave A powerhouse drama set against the backdrop of a very complicated and muddied story, The Whistleblower is one of those dramas that induce wearied sighs, furrowed brows and worried thoughts about the default state of human nature. Inspired by actual events, it’s both a crusading cop investigatory thriller and a sort of surrogate, gender-politic struggle-for-equality tale loosely in the vein of North Country. The story centers around Kathy Bolkovac (Rachel Weisz), a tough and exceedingly competent Nebraskan police officer who – facing a divorce, denied a job transfer and wanting…

The Whistleblower Movie Review

Sunday, July 31st, 2011

Title: The Whistleblower Directed By: Larysa Kondracki Written By: Eilis Kirwan, Larysa Kondracki Cast: Rachel Weisz, David Strathairn, Nikolaj Lie Kaas , Anna Anissimova Raya, Roxana Condurache, Monica Bellucci, Vanessa Redgrave Screened at: Review 1, NYC, 7/21/11 Opens: August 5, 2011 It takes a special kind of courage to be a whistleblower. You will probably be ostracized by your colleagues, you may be fired on a technicality, and you could even be killed. In a broad sense, Larysa Kondracki’s film, “The Whistleblower,” can be torn from today’s headlines. Sean Hoare, a journalist who blew the whistle on Rupert Murdock’s “News of the World” tabloid hackings, was found dead in his…
