Chilling New Stills From Warm Bodies Released

Wednesday, January 11th, 2012

Even though there’s a legion of fans who will defend Edward to the hilt, the most recent horror/fantasy punching bag was the “Twilight” series of movies. Now, it looks as if there will be another set of divisive films for horror fans to get in a tizzy about. The newest movie involving monsters and romance is “Warm Bodies,” based on the book by Isaac Marion. In this book, the anti-hero isn’t a vampire that could pass as a model–it’s a zombie that could pass as a model. The premise of the book, a young zombie boy kills and eats the brain of a girl’s boyfriend, causing him to absorb his…

Take Me Home Tonight

DVD Review: Take Me Home Tonight, The Unusual Suspects, Orgasm Inc and American Grindhouse

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

The crushing ambivalence of young adulthood is often lost under the thick glaze of hormonal revelry typically applied to teenage and twentysomething coming-of-age tales. But “Take Me Home Tonight” — an in many respects pedestrian comedy that otherwise coasts along on its energy and the winning appeal of its cast — gets this crucial detail of feeling right, which helps mitigate direction that often lacks a sense of snappishness, and a second and third act that don’t emotionally resonate as much as they could or should. The film, co-written by director Michael Dowse, from a story co-conceived by star Topher Grace, unfolds in 1988 and centers on a recent MIT…

SDCC 2011: Interview With Warm Bodies Author Isaac Marion

Monday, July 25th, 2011

A zombie story can be autobiographic, right? Okay, not exactly, but real life inspiration did help author Isaac Marion develop his book Warm Zombies to an extent. Marion joined Summit Entertainment at San Diego Comic Con, as the studio has snatched up his pieces to bring it to the big screen. In fact, the lead roles have already been cast. Nicholas Hoult will star as R, a zombie who’s a little more alert than his moaning and mindless counterparts. Teresa Palmer will step in as Julie, a living and breathing human who winds up crossing paths with R, becoming his friend rather than his next meal. Warm Bodies features a…

Sure May sort of marks the start of the summer movie season, but now that we’re past the summer solstice, June 21st, things are really starting to heat up. Russell is loading up his next cast with famous faces as is Woody Allen and the director of Snow White and the Huntsman, Rupert Sanders. Sure, there’s an abundance of casting news this week, but as…

I Am Number Four

DVD Review: I Am Number Four, Gnomeo and Juliet, Passion Play and Burning Palms

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

Back in the day, Bill Cosby’s “Leonard Part 6″ didn’t have much luck introducing itself to audiences as an original product with a higher integer in its title, and the teen-lilting sci-fi action adventure “I Am Number Four” perhaps elicited similar confusion when it bowed in theaters earlier this February. Unimpressive domestic returns ($55 million), however, might not have sullied the chances of survival for this adaptation of the first in a proposed six-book series cowritten by James Frey (yes, the lying author emasculated by Oprah Winfrey) and Jobie Hughes. If it returns, one will have both international markets (where it grossed $90 million) and the presence of Teresa Palmer,…

I Am Number Four

DVD Review: I Am Number Four

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

Title: I Am Number Four Directed by: D.J. Caruso Starring: Alex Pettyfer, Timothy Olyphant and Dianna Agron Rated PG-13, Running Time 1hr 49min, Available on Blu-ray An extra-terrestrial teen posing as a high school student (Alex Pettyfer) and his guardian protector (Timothy Olyphant) seek out fellow aliens on earth while eluding an enemy alien race who are hunting them down. He is “Number Four” on the enemy hit list. Anybody who wasn’t entertained by this film needs to remove the stick from their bum. This isn’t Academy Award material, its fun escapism. I am a little annoyed they put an Adele song in the soundtrack, this film is not worthy…

Teresa Palmer in talks to star in zombie romance film

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

Zombies are now getting the “Twilight” treatment, and I’m not sure how to feel about this! According to The Hollywood Reporter, “I Am Number Four” actress Teresa Palmer is currently in talks to star in a zombie romance film, “Warm Bodies”. The film is being described as “Twilight” meets “Shaun of the Dead”. If she’s signed on, Palmer will be starring opposite one of the it-boys of this year, Nicholas Hoult (“X-Men: First Class”). The film will center around an, according to the article, “existentially tormented zombie” who goes by the name of R. He befriends a girl who also happens to be the girlfriend of one of R’s victims….
