Andy Serkis Talks About The Award Buzz Surrounding His Motion Capture Roles

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

Andy Serkis sat down with the Los Angeles Times’ Hero Complex to talk about his acting performances–one of which, his role as Caesar in “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” has garnered him a Critic’s Choice Movie Award nomination and is also getting Oscar buzz. “What’s fantastic is that there’s a real growing appreciation for performance-capture technology as a tool for acting,” Serkis said when asked by the LA Times about receiving his nomination. “Over the years, people have asked me, ‘Do you think there should be a separate category for acting in the digital realm? Or hybrid sort of awards for digital characters?’ and so on. And I’ve…

Oscar Nomination Reactions: The Shocks And Snubs

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

It’s been a few hours since the official list of nominations for this year’s 84th Annual Academy Awards were announced, and in typical fashion, not everyone is happy with all of the results, which include myself. Now it’s time to air out what was the best, and the worst, of this morning’s quick broadcast, along with a few predictions of who could win what. Again, Just Let “The Artist” Win Best Picture Already The Michel Hazanavicius film has been practically sweeping every other awards show that it’s been nominated into, so why wouldn’t it walk away with a couple of golden boys under it’s belt? It’d be surprising if this…

Box Office Report: The Devil Inside comes out strong in 2012

Sunday, January 8th, 2012

The box office results for the first weekend of 2012 sees a long list of 2011 holdovers getting dethroned by a low-budget horror flick. A flick, which just about every critic and moviegoer hated. Here are the studio estimates: 1. The Devil Inside ($34.5 million) 2. Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol ($20.5 million) 3. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows ($14 million) 4. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo 2011 ($11.4 million) 5. Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked ($9.5 million) 6. War Horse ($8.6 million) 7. We Bought a Zoo ($8.4 million) 8. The Adventures of Tintin ($6.6 million) 9. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy ($5.7 million) 10. New Year’s Eve…

Box Office Predictions: Mission: Impossible Maintains A Solid Lead Through The New Year

Thursday, January 5th, 2012

It looks like we’re ringing in the New Year with The Devil Inside and The Devil Inside alone. However, that certainly doesn’t guarantee it the top spot at the box office. In fact, The Devil Inside could get the same treatment as last year’s Season of the Witch, which opened with $10.6 million and snagged the third spot. Should that be the case, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol could also follow in last year’s True Grit and Little Fockers‘ footsteps, losing 40% of their profits. If things do pan out that way, Ghost Protocol will be on top with another $17.5 million and…

Box Office Predictions: Mission Impossible To End The Year On Top

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

With just four limited releases making their debuts this final weekend of 2011, all of the box office veterans will get a chance to duke it out yet again. Considering the numbers were rather mild last weekend, the same could be true now with no new competition to shake things up. Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol took $29.5 million in its first weekend out as a wide release and should have no trouble holding onto that top spot this time around. Last year Little Fockers fell just 16.4% from Christmas to New Year’s, so if Ghost Protocol sees a similar drop, it’ll lock the #1 slot with another $25 million….

Box Office Predictions: Mission: Impossible And The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Are On Santa's Nice List

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

This is going to be a tough one. Due to the holiday, we’ve got new films opening all throughout the week – The Adventures of Tintin and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on Wednesday, We Bought a Zoo on Friday and The Darkest Hour and War Horse on Sunday. Will The Adventures of Tintin be the next Alvin and the Chipmunks (the first two, at least)? Definitely not, but being one of the only strictly kid-friendly flick in theaters, it could snag as much as last year’s Yogi Bear, about $16 million Friday to Sunday, and take a total of $30 million for the full five days. As for…

Interview: The Adventures of Tintin Red Carpet Coverage

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

The holidays are officially upon us and that means a slew of new movies are on the way, however, it’s not very often that we get two movies from the same director. Not only does Steven Spielberg have War Horse due out in theaters for Christmas, but The Adventures of Tintin, too. Based on three of Hergé’s iconic comic books, The Adventures of Tintin follows the young journalist and his loyal dog Snowy. When Tintin buys a model of an old ship called the Unicorn, he attracts some unwanted attention. After Tintin refuses to sell his ship to a pair of overeager buyers, he discovers the Unicorn happens to be…

THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN

The Adventures of Tintin Movie Review

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

Title: The Adventures of Tintin Director: Steven Spielberg Starring: Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, Daniel Craig, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Toby Jones, Cary Elwes If it was all about looks, “The Adventures of Tintin” could contend for best picture of the year. The motion-capture animation is exquisite. From the epic-level action sequences, to the inquisitive chatter moments, the eyes will be treated to continuous pleasure in this 107 minute feature directed by Steven Spielberg. Having Spielberg’s talents is usually enough, but audiences will also get a sizable helping of Peter Jackson’s Weta Digital CG, along with charismatic cinematography by Janusz Kaminisky. Oh, and the music score by the great John Williams…

Exclusive: Giancarlo Esposito Talks Breaking Bad And Once Upon A Time

Sunday, December 11th, 2011

All caught up on Breaking Bad? No? First off, how dare you? But, more importantly, watch out because this piece is packed with spoilers! Earlier this evening Breaking Bad baddie, Giancarlo Esposito, showed off how unlike Gus Fring he really is, enjoying a nice night out with his daughter at the premiere of The Adventures of Tintin. Naturally, after Gus’ shocking demise, the obligatory question had to be asked – is that really the end of Gus? While Esposito artfully dodged the question, he does note that “no one dies on Breaking Bad” and that Gus will “definitely be back” perhaps “to put a final stamp on the series’ ending.”…
