Columbia Pictures just released this brand new movie poster from the upcoming remake “The Karate Kid” aka Kung Fu Kid by director Harald Zwart (The Pink Panther 2) and starring Jackie Chan (Rush Hour 3, Chinese Zodiac) and Jaden Smith (The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Pursuit of Happyness).
Synopsis: Will Smith’s son Jaden Smith stars in this updated version of the 1980’s film that starred Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita.
While the new film will be set in Beijing, it will borrow elements of the original plot, wherein a bullied youth learns to stand up for himself with the help of an eccentric mentor.

Actor and martial arts star Jackie Chan is reportedly in final negotiations to star as Mr. Miyagi in the remake of The Karate Kid.
Chan will play mentor to Will Smith’s son, Jaden, who has been cast in the lead role once played by Ralph Macchio.
Variety says the film is set in an exotic Asian locale and that it will borrow elements of the original plot: a bullied youth (Smith) learns to stand up for himself with the help of an eccentric mentor (Chan).
Chris Murphy penned the screenplay with Harald Zwart directing.
The Karate Kid remake will shoot early this summer in Beijing.

Actor Will Smith’s son, Jaden, has landed his first major lead role in an upcoming remake of The Karate Kid, according to Variety.com.
Jaden, 10, is Smith’s oldest son with wife Jada Pinkett Smith. He had previously acted alongside his father in 2006 film The Pursuit of Happyness and in the television series “All of Us,” which was created by his parents. He also has a role in the upcoming remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still, starring Keanu Reeves.
Jaden will be starring in the remake as the character of Daniel, originally portrayed in 1984 by Ralph Macchio.
