The folks at Paramount are very proud of their Academy Award nominees. In honor of Transformers: Dark of the Moon‘s nods for best sound mixing, best sound editing and best visual effects, the studio released a TV spot showing off just that, the sound and the effects. Perhaps they’re getting a bit ahead of themselves dubbing their crew the “best sound team of the year” and the “best visual effects team of the year,” but hey, these are the Academy Awards we’re talking about here; I’d be that thrilled, too. But perhaps not as confident. Take a look at the TV spot for yourself below and be sure to tune…

In the immediate moments following Shia LaBeouf’s fight on a Vancouver sidewalk last week, the ‘Transformers’ star reportedly threatened to pull a knife on the man who tried to calm him down, TMZ is reporting. Shea Carter, the man who restrained LaBeouf after the fight, said the actor never actually flashed a knife, however. Carter also said he noticed LaBeouf inside the Cinema Public House bar before the fight began. The actor was reportedly drunk and swaying into other patrons, including one man who told him “Hey man, watch out.” LaBeouf reportedly responded by saying “Oh yea? Or what? What are you going to do about it?” The two then…

Don Murphy is looking to take another cartoon to the big screen. The “Transformers” producer is looking to give “Captain Planet” a movie treatment, according to CinemaBlend. According to the article, Murphy has signed a deal with Cartoon Network to develop a film based on “Captain Planet and the Planeteers.” If you know anything about “Captain Planet,” you’ll know that the show is extremely ’90s in terms of the politics and the then-emerging eco-centric culture it is based on (I remember being taught about Earth Day in kindergarten, which was right around the time when “Captain Planet” was still on the air). Also, the love-hate-love relationship between Linka (her home…

Can Transformers: Dark of the Moon go three for three? Fat chance. In fact, there’s a good chance Dark of the Moon could lose its highest earner of 2011 title fairly soon, too. The release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is packing an incredible amount of hype all of which is about to explode throughout a whopping 4,200+ locations. Should Part 2 debut with the same $30,300 per theater average as Part 1, we’re looking at a $130 million weekend which would make The Deathly Hallows Part 2 the strongest opener of the franchise. Winnie the Pooh is also set for a wide release this week,…

“Transformers: Dark of the Moon” may be the end of the “Transformers” series for director Michael Bay, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not over period. “Transformers” producer Don Murphy has stated on his forums that he believes there’s going to be another series: What happens next? Certainly not a reboot. We haven’t lost the Transformers. They didn’t grow up or become expensive like Toby Maguire. I don’t know what happens next. I’m pretty sure there will be a second trilogy. I am pretty sure it will kick ass. And I am pretty sure some of you will hate it because it wasn’t all bots. I think it’s safe to…

After a monstrous record-breaking July 4th weekend courtesy of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, we get one a bit on the tamer side for the summer season. We’ve got two new wide releases making their debuts, but neither will be able to surpass Optimus Prime and the gang. Assuming everyone’s gotten Bad Teacher out of their systems, there should be more than enough room for Horrible Bosses to swoop in and snag just as much money, about $30 million. Usually, I’d expect a four-quadrant family film to trump an R-rated comedy, but after Mr. Popper’s Penguins failed to impress, I don’t see how Zookeeper could wrap the weekend with more…

Transformers: Dark of the Moon may not have come anywhere near Revenge of the Fallen‘s $62 million Wednesday intake, but $37.7 million is not a bad start in the least. The question is, how will this initial difference affect the rest of Dark of the Moon‘s opening weekend? Revenge of the Fallen began its run with a $109 million weekend and Dark of the Moon should have no problem coming close. The difference? For Dark of the Moon that total will be the result of a four-day weekend rather than a mere three-day one like Revenge of the Fallen. Should Dark of the Moon continue to have a lesser per…

Critics may hate it. But that’s not stopping the summer movie-going crowd from shelling out cash to see it. “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” set the benchmark as far as opening day grosses are concerned this year. Collecting $37.3 million on the domestic front, the third installment from director Michael Bay can now tout having the highest opening day total for 2011. The figure is good for the sixth best Wednesday opening ever with the assist from 3D & IMAX screens surely helping out. Yet this installment is a far cry from the previous, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which hit $62 million domestically, also opening on a Wednesday in…
