Exclusive: Wim Wenders Talks Oscar-Nominated Pina, and the Future of 3-D

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

While many directors are all too content to mine a seam, German-born filmmaker Wim Wenders (“Wings of Desire,” “The Buena Vista Social Club,” “Paris, Texas,” the ambitious “Until the End of the World”) has enjoyed a delightfully diverse career, jumping back and forth between narrative and nonfiction works. His latest film, the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar-nominated documentary “Pina,” taps into his decades-long friendship with the late, lauded choreographer Pina Bausch, imaginatively exploring her work in 3-D by utilizing the dancers of her Tanztheater Wuppertal ensemble. Tuesday, November 1st, 2011

Title: Killing Bono Director: Nick Hamm Starring: Ben Barnes (‘The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian,’ ‘The Voyage of the Dawn Treader’), Robert Sheehan (‘Season of the Witch,’ TV’s ‘Misfits’) and Martin McCann (TV’s ‘The Pacific’) Modern society often encourages people to celebrate, and strive for, celebrity status and continued success. Unfortunately, not everyone can obtain high levels of exceptional success, as seen in the new comedy ‘Killing Bono.’ The film, which was based on musician Neil McCormick’s memoir ‘Killing Bono: I Am Bono’s Doppelganger,’ expertly shows the struggles the Irish musician faced in launching his career, as he’s always in Bono and U2′s shadow. Like many people in the world,…

Some Days Are Better Than Others

Some Days Are Better Than Others Movie Review

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

Title: Some Days Are Better Than Others Writer-director: Matt McCormick Starring: James Mercer, Carrie Brownstein, David Wodehouse, Renee Roman Nose, Eric McGarry A delicate tone poem ensemble set in Portland, writer-director Matt McCormick’s “Some Days Are Better Than Others” is an unfussy rumination on modern human disillusionment and connection. The so-called “mumblecore” genre has gotten a bit of a bum rap for the dawdling pace and seemingly lesson-free nature of many of its entries, but there’s a pleasant and refreshing sense of cinematic rejuvenation that comes with submitting to a film that feels entirely of a piece in all its elements, but also unburdened by any sense of desperate, dutiful…
