“Bridesmaids” was the runaway comedy hit of 2011. It helped break the glass ceiling for other all-woman ensemble comedies that don’t feature any stupid rom-com gags. As such, Universal is ready to another “Bridesmaids” film, but will they do it without the main star, Kristen Wiig? According to Slash Film, Universal just might do that. Wiig and Annie Mumolo–who co-wrote the screenplay, have said that they aren’t interested in doing another “Bridesmaids,” however, the film’s producer, Judd Apatow, said in a statement “We don’t want to do it unless it can be great.” A source has said that Apatow won’t be interested in doing a sequel unless Mumolo and Wiig…

Universal has hired ‘Training Day’ writer David Ayer to pen the upcoming ‘Scarface’ film, Collider is reporting. The studio is still saying the new version won’t be a remake, and will instead mix the elements Howard Hawks and Brian De Palma included in their respective 1932 and 1983 movies. Marc Shmuger and Martin Bregman are on board to produce the new ‘Scarface,’ which Ayer has said he’s excited about working on. “This is a fantasy for me. I can still remember when I saw the film at 13 and it blew my mind.” The screenwriter added that he sees the first two ‘Scarface’ films as the story of the American…

With Universal passing on Ron Howard’s adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘The Dark Tower’ this past summer, due to its large budget, producer Brian Grazer has cut the production costs by $45-50 million, Collider is reporting. Howard, Grazer and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman worked to lower the budget all summer for the project, which would feature a film trilogy and a TV series. While promoting the upcoming ‘Tower Heist,’ Grazer said “We found a way to cut out $45 million out of the budget (for ‘The Dark Tower’) without changing the scope and actually giving it a good ending.” He added that with the original $140 million budget, the “ending wasn’t quite…
