In a Variety.com article yesterday, author Anne Thompson manages to scare up some brand new Cloverfield movie details from director Matt Reeves.

Director Matt Reeves talks about leaving things to a viewers imagination. “It’s the idea that anticipation is as scary as anything in a movie could be, People’s imagination is the most effective tool in creating terror or dread.” says Cloverfield director Matt Reeves to Variety. We’ve seen this play out in the films many trailers and clips.

According to Variety, nearly two thirds of the film will be seen from a “Blair Witch” style point of view on a digital camera. Director Matt Reeves tells Variety, “The little camera establishes a feel — its grace notes; you see the reflections of the actor holding the camera.” The intense special effects, masters shots and digital camera shots will be seamlessly melded together.

Variety also explains a bit more about the Cloverfield plot. The films title “Cloverfield” is also the government’s code name for “case incident” involving the footage found from the site formally know as Central Park. The lead character is Rob, who is in love with a beauty named Beth. The camera operator in the film is Rob’s friend Hud who ends up shooting throughout the night as the monster savages New York.

Other interesting facts from the Variety article is that the title “Cloverfied”, has always been the films title and that it was the first film noted by the MPAA to have produced an untitled trailer which aired during Transformers.
