CHUD.com writer Devin Farasi recently got to sit down with Iron Man director Jon Favreau and dish on the upcoming Iron Man 2, the sequel to the critical summer smash, starring Robert Downey Jr., Jeff Bridges, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Terrence Howard, about Tony Stark, the industrialist who after a life-changing accident saves himself by donning a high-tech suit of armor and later fighting crime as the hero known as Iron Man.

Favreau says he’s very interested in expanding the storylines of characters rather than merely the storylines, and that he is interested in definitely expanding Terrence Howard’s role as Jim Rhodes, aka War Machine, in the next film. He also says that he’s aware of criticisms of the last battle scene in Iron Man, and that he learned a lot from that experience, promising to improve on action sequences in the sequel. Favreau also talked about comic book writer Matt Fraction and his current work on The Invincible Iron Man, one of two major Iron Man books that are currently running on Marvel Comics along with Iron Man: Director of SHIELD, and the possibility of working on something with Fraction in the second film.

Downey Jr, Paltrow, and Howard have all signed on for two sequels to Iron Man in their respective roles, hopefully leading to what fans will eventually be calling the Iron Man Trilogy.

Iron Man, released May 2nd 2008, has grossed $573,698,859 worldwide so far and is coming out on DVD and Blu-Ray September 30th.
