Kat Dennings (Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist, Housebunny) has officially signed on to play the role of Kat in the upcoming feature film “Defendor”, joining Actor Woody Harrelson (No Country For Old Men, The People Vs. Larry Flynt) and Sandra Oh (Sideways, Grey’s Anatomy). Harrelson will be playing Arthur, a regular man who believes he has a secret identity as the superhero “Defendor”. Sandra Oh plays his psychiatrist and Kat Dennings plays a teenager living on the streets whom Arthur befriends.

The picture is being produced by Darius Films’ principal Nicholas Tabarrok (Coopers Camera, Weirdsville, The Life and Hard Times of Guy Terrifco). “Defendor” is written and will be directed by Peter Stebbings in his feature film directing debut. Principal photography will begin this November in Toronto, Canada.

“It’s an incredible cast for an indie” enthuses Tabarrok. “We pretty much cover the gamut – from Kat the most in-demand, up and coming young star to Woody, one of the best actors of his own generation to Sandra a superb actress from the hottest show on TV. We assembled a fantastic group of talent”.

Last month, Tabarrok was named one of Variety’s Top Producers to Watch. His production company, Darius Films, premiered its two most recent films at the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival (Coopers Camera and Down To The Dirt) continuing its history of financing and producing indie films which go on to play some of the great festivals around the world where they are often sold for distribution. “Defendor is financed with the US domestic still available, so yah, with this cast I think it’s likely this will be a hot property on the buyers list come festival time” says Tabarrok.

The “Defendor” deals were brokered by Tabarrok and Mick Sullivan at CAA for Dennings, Jeremy Plager at CAA for Harrelson and Marsha McManus of Principal Entertainment for Oh.

  1. […] Relatively hyped in recent months and with some justification. A film that goes through a mix of emotions is always a challenge and this is done with wonderful pacing, a good script and excellent performances all-round. I’m not sure it has the depth that it’s been portrayed as having, but it is a very good look at a position, where but for the grace of god etc lol. I wish I’d have stayed away from the hype because my anticipation levels had built up pretty high and it wasn’t quite the perfect film I was hoping it would be. Nevertheless it is definitely a film that I will go back to even if just to see the ending.
