The Incredible Hulk producer Gale Anne Hurd talked with MTV news about the directions that Marvel Studios is going to be taking the Big Green Man himself, the Hulk, in future movies from the studio responsible for both “Hulk”, starring Ed Norton, as well as the blockbuster “Iron Man” starring Robert Downey Jr. In terms of the internet buzz pinpointing the Hulk as the villain in the upcoming “Avengers” movie as opposed to a sequel to “The Incredible Hulk”.

“It’s all going to depend on the screenplay and where his character goes in any sequel, because [Ed Norton] does have a multiple-picture deal, […] Next, he’s likely to appear in an ‘Avengers’ movie, but that’s completely up to Marvel,” she explained. “It’s wonderful that Marvel now controls so many of their own characters, and they can create a Marvel universe in film and populate it with so many of their characters who naturally exist together. I think an ‘Avengers’ film is a very exciting prospect.”

This past summer’s “The Incredible Hulk” started Ed Norton as Bruce Banner/the Hulk, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, William Hurt as General “Thunderbolt” Ross, and Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/the Abomination. It was Marvel Studio’s second fully independent film and part of their move to tie together their varying franchises, in anticipation of the more-than-likely “Avengers” movie in 2011.
