X-Men fansite Xmenfilms.net is reporting that 20th Century Fox is looking at releasing the first trailer for the much-anticipated “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” movie, a spinoff from the Fox’s “X-Men” movie franchise and on the incredibly popular Marvel Comics character, during the premieres of “The Day The Earth Stood Still” remake, starring Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly on December 12th, 2008.

Marvel’s Wolverine character, a feral Canadian mutant with an unbreakable metal-reinforced skeleton and claws, enhanced senses, and a superhuman healing ability, has been popular ever since his first appearance in 1974 and has numerous solo series and appearances in other X-related media, including a portrayal by Australian actor Hugh Jackman in the popular trilogy of live-action film adaptations of the X-Men. After the release of 2006’s “X-Men: The Last Stand”, rumors began circulating about the project due to the positive critical and fan reactions to Jackman as Wolverine, and David Benoff, the author of “25th Hour”, which was adapted for the screen by Spike Lee, confirmed to Newsarama.com that he was commissioned to write a script back in 2004.

“X-Men Origins: Wolverine” will star Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine, Liev Schreiber as Victor Creed/Sabretooth, Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, and Taylor Kitsch as Remy LeBeau/Gambit. Gavin Hood is directing and it will be distributed by Fox. It’s slated to open May 1st, 2009.
