Adam Duritz, frontman for 90’s hit alternative band the Counting Crows is teaming up with comedy troupe Broken Lizard for their upcoming big-screen comedic venture, “Freeloaders”. Counting Crows are known for their 1994 hit “Mrs. Jones” off of their album “August And Everything After” from Geffen Record.

“Freeloaders” will be about five guys and a girl, friends of a rock star who live in luxury alongside their friend. However, they are then faced with a dilemma when their rock star friend/benefactor decides to sell his house.

Dan Rosen wrote the “Freeloaders” screenplay with the Gigolo Aunts lead singer Dave Gibbs. Rosen is attached to direct, and Duritz will be producing. Shooting is expected to be starting in January 2009.

Broken Lizard, a comedy troupe formed in 1996 at Colgate University in New York and known for the hit films “Super Troopers”, “Beerfest”, and “Club Dread”, is composed of Erik Stolhanske, Paul Soter, Steve Lemme, Kevin Heffernan, Jay Chandrasekhar and producers Richard Perello and Julia Dray. Although the comedy troupe behind “Beerfest” and “Club Dread” has a deal at Warner Bros where those films were financed through a deal the Broken Lizard had with the studio, they are planning to independently finance “Freeloaders”.
