The long-anticipated view of the Leonard Nemoy cameo in the upcoming “Star Trek” movie has arrived courtesy of Ain’t It Cool News, with the release of the web-only trailer for the JJ Abrams take on the classic science fiction franchise.

The movie, which has been in production since 2005, will document the beginning of the Enterprise’s crew’s adventures together as well as their battle with the evil Romulans, and has been dubbed a sort of “origin story”. The highly-anticipated Trek movie, starring Chris Pine as James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban as Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy, Simon Pegg as Montgomery “Scotty” Scott, John Cho as Hikaru Sulu, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov, and Eric Bana as the Romulan villain Nero, is due in theaters May 7th 2009 from Paramount Pictures.

The “Star Trek” franchise first began as a TV series in 1966, created by screenwriter Gene Roddenberry. It has since become both a cult as well as a mainstream pop culture phenomenon with six TV series as well as ten films under the “Star Trek” umbrella. The 2009 “Star Trek” movie, directed by JJ Abrams, will be the eleventh film in the series.
