Screenwriter Matt Johnson (“Into the Blue”) will give the Red 5 comic “Afterburn” the silver-screen treatment for Relativity Media, according to The Hollywood Reporter and Superherohype.com. The sci-fi “Afterburn” is being produced by Neal Moritz’s Original Films and Tobey Maguire’s Maguire Entertainment banner, with Toby Jaffe also producing.
Red 5’s “Afterburn” is a futuristic science-fiction story set against a post-apocalyptic Earth, ravaged by a solar flareup that affects over half the planet, making it a barren and mutated wasteland. A group of treasure hunters in this new world of mutants, futuristic pirates, and other treasure hunters, risk untimely fates to extract objects like The Mona Lisa, the British Royal Crown Jewels, and the Rosetta Stone.
