Variety reports that Sony Pictures Entertainment has won the bidding war for the Adam McKay-directed comedy The B Team that will star Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg.

Screenwriter Christ Henchy, who recently wrote the script for the upcoming Ferrell comedy Land of the Lost, is teaming up with McKay to write The B Team with Ferrell and McKay’s production company, Gary Sanchez Productions, and Mosaic producing.

Sony has not set a release date for the film, but it is expected to go into production as quickly as the filmmakers can get it ready.

Sony Co-President Matt Tolmach reportedly felt comfortable committing to the film without a finished script because Columbia had previously worked in exactly the same fashion on McKay and Ferrell’s other films Talladega Nights and Step Brothers, both of which were huge successes.

Talladega Nights cost around $72 million and grossed $148 million domestically in 2006 and Step Brothers cost around $65 million and grossed $100 million domestically in 2008.

Henchy, who is the latest addition to Gary Sanchez Productions, is co-executive producer of upcoming HBO sitcom “East Bound & Down.” He previously spent several seasons as co-executive producer of “Entourage,” the HBO series on which Wahlberg is executive producer with Doug Ellin and Stephen Levinson.
