“Dragonball Evolution” is the upcoming live-action adaptation of the much-loved Japanese anime and manga “Dragonball”, about ayoung man named Goku who fights to defend the Earth from various villains, including the evil Lord Piccolo, from claiming the mystical gems known as the Dragon Balls. Combined together, the seven Dragon Balls can summon a magic dragon who can grant immeasurable power to the person who summons him, which Piccolo plans to use for evil.

The film is based on the now-classic manga by written and illustrated by Akira Toriyama and first appeared in 1984, about a boy with a tail named Goku, who traveled the world seeking the wish-granting Dragon Balls, learning martial arts, and meeting several friends to help him along the way. The manga has spawned a media franchise that has led to multiple manga volumes, and includes several anime series and several animated films as well.

“Dragonball Evolution” stars Justin Chatwick as Goku, James Marsters as Piccolo, Emma Rossum as Bulma, and Chow Yun-Fat as Master Roshi, is in theaters April 8th, 2009.
