IESB.net is reporting that the long-awaited “Wonder Woman” movie, an adaptation of the DC Comics character, is finally starting to gain more momentum towards starting production. Warner Bros and Silver Pictures are now looking for a director to help the project, as well as writers and pitches for story specifics. In the works in some form since 2001 and even rumored to be helmed by Joss Whedon at one point, the film finally began to garner support after the success of Warner Bros’ “The Dark Knight”, another DC adaptation.

Wonder Woman is a a DC Comics character created by William Moulton Marston, and first appeared in “All Star Comics” #8 in December 1941. Wonder Woman is a member of a fictional, all-female tribe of Amazons, and along with Superman and Batman form DC Comics’ “trinity” of flagship characters. A founding member of DC’s best-known superhero groups the Justice League as well as some versions of the Justice Society Of America, she has various powers but is perhaps best known for her Lasso Of Truth, a magic weapon that among other things, compels those caught by it to speak no falsehoods. Wonder Woman, who uses the human secret identity of “Diana Prince”, is one of three characters to have been continuously published by DC Comics since the company’s 1944 inception, except for a brief hiatus in 1984.
