The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Paramount is development of an adaptation of Robert C. O’Brien’s “Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH,” which has been previously been animated in the 1982 film “The Secret of NIMH”, directed by Don Bluth.

Director Neil Burger (“The Illusionist”) is in talks to write the screenplay, and Cary Granat is on board to produce.

The story centers on the mouse Mrs. Frisby, who must try to move her family’s home from the farmer’s fields to avoid the plow despite her son being deathly sick. To do so she goes to a haven of rats, who are actually former lab rats running a highly evolved society and have advanced technologies, to seek help.
