The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Jon Favreau has signed on to direct “Cowboys & Aliens,” which will be starring Robert Downey Jr, for DreamWorks/Universal.

The Platinum Studios comic book by Scott Rosenberg tells the story of traditional Old West enemies, cowboys and Indians, banding together to fight an invasion of aliens from outer space in 19th-century Arizona.

The project’s executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci wrote the script, along with “Lost” executive producer Damon Lindelof. Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, alongside Rosenberg, are onboard as producers.
