Variety.com is reporting that Paul Giamatti has signed on to play the tyrannical King John in the medieval action flick “Ironclad,” which is starting production in Wales next month. James Purefoy has already been cast to star.

Jonathan English (“Minotaur”) is directing, based on a script by him, Erick Kastel and Steve McDool. Rick Benattar and Andrew Curtis are producing. The film is set in 13th-century England and follows Purefoy as a member of the formidable and legendary Knights Templar who ends up defending Rochester Castle against Giammati’s King John and his ruthless army.
