According to a report by Variety, Vigilante Entertainment has picked up Warren Ellis’ comic book series “Black Summer” to produce a live-action adaptation of the Avatar Press comic book.
Ryne Pearson (“Knowing”) is attached to write the screenplay for the project.
Vigilante Entertainment is headed by Hicham Benkirane, who was formerly the head of audiovisual development at Les Munaoids Associes, the French comics publisher.
Published in 2007, “Black Summer” is about the superhero/science adventureer team known as the Seven Guns, who end up modifying their bodies and powers for down-n-dirty street fighting in order to take back their city from corrupt government, law enforcement, and private security forces intent on maintaining control.
