Bryan Singer has signed on to direct the next scheduled “X-Men” film for Fox, “X-Men: First Class Origins”.

Singer previously directed “X-Men” and “X2: X-Men United”, and in an interview on the red carpet for James Cameron’s “Avatar”, he told MTV that he’d signed on to direct the next X-Men “Origins” film to follow up “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”.

The film which will reportedly be the story of the early days of Cyclops, Jean Grey and others at the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning, being a rough adaptation of Marvel Comics’ “X-Men Origins” comic, a re-telling of the original X-Men stories.
