Famed movie and television actor Dennis Hopper has filed for divorce in Los Angeles from his fifth wife, Victoria.  Court records show he cited irreconcilable differences, and is seeking both joint legal and physical custody of their 6-year-old daughter Galen.

Hopper does plan to provide Victoria with spousal support, in part due to the length of the relationship.  The couple has been together for 18 years, and married five years into the relationship.  This is Hopper’s longest marriage of the five, which includes an 8-day union to Michelle Phillips.

The announcement came as a surprise, as the Huffington Post has reported that Hopper is mentally confused, after taking enormous amounts of medication for his prostate cancer in recent weeks to help with his declining condition.  But the publication is suggesting that if the actor does not make it through, he is worried about who would get his money and possessions.  The Post also suggested he wants to get Victoria out of the will.

In addition to Galen, Hopper has three grown children, Marin, Henry and Ruthiana (to whom he reportedly has not spoken to in years).  Both Marin, her daughter and Henry have lived close to Hopper for the past few years and plan to do so for the foreseeable future.

The report came after Hopper recently finished shooting the second season of the Starz series Crash.  He portrays L.A. music producer Ben Cendars on the series.
