Lionsgate and Millenium Films have cast Jason Momoa (“Stargate: Atlantis”, HBO’s “Game Of Thrones”) in Marcus Nispel’s upcoming adaptation of “Conan the Barbarian,” the classic Robert E. Howard character.

The barbarian pulp literature character has been adapted into various media since his first appearance in 1932, from cartoons to comics. He has previously been portrayed in film most famously by now-California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1982. A new “Conan” film has been in the works since 2007.

A report from Latino Review says that an offer has been made to Mickey Rourke to portray Conan’s father, the Cimmerian chieftan Corin.

The movie is scheduled to start production March 15th, 2010, in Bulgaria.
