The distribution rights to “Machete”, the project that grew out of a fake trailer Robert Rodriguez included in his joint project with Quentin Tarentino, “Grindhouse”, has been acquired by 20th Century Fox.
Danny Trejo, a Rodriguez regular, will be returning to the title role he portrayed in the fake trailer about a machete-wielding avenger, alongside Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez.
Robert Rodriguez wrote and produced “Machete,” with Rick Schwartz’s Overnight Productions financing the film. He directed it with co-director Ethan Maniquis.
Rodriguez is already working on relauching the “Predator” franchise with this summer’s upcoming “Predators” for Fox, which will star Trejo, Adrien Brody, and Topher Grace.
