Warner Brothers have tapped Sony Pictures Imageworks to take the lead for the visual effects for “Green Lantern”.

Karen Goulekas (“The Day After Tomorrow”), Kent Houston (“The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus”). and Jim Berney (“I Am Legend”) from Imageworks will be overseeing the project, an adaptation of the DC comics character and title “Green Lantern”, an test pilot chosen to become a member of the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic peacekeeping force powered by fearlessness.

Houston has previously worked with Martin Campbell on the recent Mel Gibson film “Edge of Darkness.”

Imageworks has previously worked on superhero-related fare such as “Watchmen,” “Superman Returns,” and Sony’s “Spider-Man” franchise.

“Green Lantern”, starring Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, and Peter Sarsgaard, is slated for a June 17th, 2011 release.
