Screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson (“Chloe”) is adapting the Lisa See novel “Peony In Love” for Fox 2000, and that Ridley and Tony Scott’s Scott Free Productions will be producing the adaptation alongside actress/producer Giannina Facio.
Set in medieval 17th-century China, the book, based on a true story, is about a young girl who is frustrated at being betrothed to a man she’s never met. She falls in love with a man she sees at an opera production, where she is hidden behind a screen, which is meant to hide women from the view of the public. The story is set against the rise of the Manchurians as they overthrow the Ming Dynasty.
