Following her short-lived dramatic USA Network series ‘The Starter Wife,’ Debra Messing is going back to her ‘Will & Grace’ comedic roots. The Hollywood Reporter has announced Messing has signed on to play Evelyn Wright in the ABC pilot ‘Wright vs. Wrong.’

The magazine also reported that the sitcom is about a conservative pundit whose personal life is under scrutiny because of her public image. Messing will serve as an executive producer, along with Stephenie Weir, who wrote the pilot, and ‘Arrested Development’ producer Mitch Hurwitz

The pilot comes after Messing received an Emmy nomination for ‘The Starter Wife’ and won an Emmy (out of five nominations) for ‘Will & Grace.’ She was supposed to star in an NBC sitcom this year about a laid-off CEO who finds she’s not the best at being a stay-at-home wife and mom, but the network passed on the show.
